Ridgefield Aquatic Club Swimmers Compete at USA Swimming Sectional Championships

 

            The Ridgefield Aquatic Club sent 7 swimmers to the USA Swimming Sectional Championships in College Park, Maryland on March 13-16.  The competition at the sectional meet consisted of some of the nations most elite swimmers.  The RAC swimmers who attended competed with the likes of American Record Holder and 2004 Olympian Kate Ziegler.  The RAC swimmers who attend the meet were Brian Bollerman, 15 from Ridgefield, Jack Driessen, 17 from Ridgefield, Kristi Edleson, 16 from Brewster, NY, Marc Fink, 17 from Brookfield, Andrew Klutey, 15 from Ridgefield, Tom Lombardo, 17 from Ridgefield, and Danny Palmiotto, 17 from Brookfield.

            Over the course of the meet RAC broke 6 team records and had 4 swimmers qualify for the finals session.  Kristi Edleson led the way by breaking team records in the women’s 400 free, 800 free, and 1500 meter free.  She placed 19th in the 400 free, 13th in the 800 free, and 12th in the 1500 free.  Andrew Klutey led the boys team by breaking the team records in the men’s 800 free and 400 IM.  He placed 16th in the 800 free, 21st in the 400 IM, and 19th in the 400 free.  Also scoring for RAC was Marc Fink who placed 20th in the men’s 200 breast, and Danny Palmiotto who placed 21st in the men’s 200 backstroke, 22nd in the 100 backstroke, and 23rd in the 200 IM.  In addition to some fine individual performances, the RAC boys broke the team record in the 800 free relay. The relay consisted of Danny Palmiotto, Marc Fink, Tom Lombardo, and Andrew Klutey.
